4. What happens the day of surgery?
Lasik surgery is an outpatient procedure that takes less than 15 minutes to complete for most patients.
You will arrive at the Dr. Paveloff's Laser Center 45 minutes prior to your procedure. Patients are given a small dose of Valium to help relax. A nurse will review all your orders prior to seeing the doctor. You will then have a chance to speak with the doctor if you have any last minute questions. After being escorted to the laser room, anesthetic drops will be placed in your eyes. Dr. Paveloff will position your head under the laser, and a lid holder will be used to gently and comfortably hold your eyelids open during the procedure. Dr. Paveloff will enter your refractive error into the computer. Once the corneal flap is formed with the microkeratome, you will be asked to focus on a blinking light for a minute or less. Dr. Paveloff will view your eye directly through a surgical microscope to ensure that you are fixating properly and can pause at any time. The right eye will be treated first followed by the left eye. Once finished, you will be escorted to a quiet room to rest for 20 minutes. Dr. Paveloff will recheck your eyes to assure the flap is in good position. You will then receive the postoperative instructions from the staff and be sent home to rest and relax for the next 4 to 6 hours.
Your visit will be complete in about two hours. Afterward, you'll go home to rest and relax for several hours.
5. How soon can I go back to work?
Most patients return to work the next day. In some cases, a few days of rest is recommended by Dr. Paveloff.
6. Can Presbyopia be corrected with refractive surgery?
Patients who are presbyopic can obtain better reading vision after Lasik surgery, however this may slightly impair the distance vision depending on the age of the patient.
7. Does Lasik surgery correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism?
These conditions can all be corrected with refractive laser surgery. Please review The Lasik Procedure page to learn how Lasik can help these vision conditions.
