Learning about your vision condition
is the first step to finding the proper correction solution.

Diagram of Normal Eye Vision
The LASIK procedure can correct many common vision conditions including:
Myopia
The medical term for nearsightedness. It is a condition in which objects that are up close are usually
in focus and clear, but those at a distance (outside of arms' length) appear blurred. The condition is
caused when the shape of the eyeball or cornea is such that light entering the eye cannot be properly
focused on the retina. The image falls in front of the retina thus causing a blurry image in the
distance.
Hyperopia
More commonly referred to as farsightedness, hyperopia is a condition by which distant objects
appear clear when we are young, but images close up may appear blurred or cause eyestrain when
trying to focus. As we age past 40, distant images may also start to blur. The condition is
caused when the shape of the eyeball or cornea is such that light entering the eye cannot be
properly focused on the retina. The image falls behind the retina thus causing a blurry
image.
Astigmatism
Astigmatism occurs when the cornea is misshapen to some degree, causing light to be improperly
focused and distorted on the retina.
Presbyopia
Usually occurs at or around age 40, when the natural lens inside the eye loses flexibility,
making it difficult to focus on objects or print at close range. It is a natural process of
aging, not a disease, and routinely cannot be prevented.
